SKINCARE
The Unbiased Truth

Confusion in the appropriate treatment of the Skin abounds and is the singular impetus behind the creation of this site. First and foremost, this site is UNBIASED. No specific Skincare Product or Procedure is recommended on this site nor is any Product sold on this site. Reports estimate that over $2 Billion annually are wasted on well-marketed, yet ineffective Skincare products. FDA approval does not mean the products works as claimed. The claims are NOT approved by the FDA. The marketing companies make many claims and even espouse Doctor recommended, or Prescription strength or Dermatologist recommended. This is not completely true.

Only a handful of manufacturing companies in the country actually make the products on the market, in the skincare stores, the make up counters, the department stores, the salon's brand, even physician brands.

Turn over the bottle and READ ACTIVE ingredients. Prescription ingredients CAN ONLY BE WRITTEN BY PHYSICIANS. LET ME REPEAT. PRESCRIPTION INGREDIENTS CAN ONLY BE WRITTEN BY PHYSICIANS.

SKIN is an ORGAN. Physicians are best trained to treat ORGANS. Cosmetic companies are well versed in make-up, while Physicians understand the physiology of the skin and are experts in treating and maintaining your skin with prescription skincare medicines. Only physicians have the authority to utilize prescriptions for skincare. Prescription strength and the term cosmeceutical, neutroceutical are "marketing terms" and have no meaning in the medical community nor the federal government's literature. Clinical studies are not verified sources, especially the studies funded by the marketing company. The Clinical studies and reviews found on this site are INDEPENDENT. We simply want the FACTS and will report to you the FACTS. Anonymous Doctor recommended and Dermatologist recommended have no relevance.

Ask your ACCP cosmetic physicians what he or she recommends and you will have a valid answer from a reputable source. ACCP certified studies are Unbiased independent studies conducted by cosmetic physicians with no financial interest in outcomes and are verified in medical journals. You will not see those studies in glamour magazines. You will not see prescription compounded products in glamour magazines. Real science is featured in scientific medical journals that your physician will likely have. You may also find a listing of medical journals in the bibliography link. Kojic Acid, TCA, Salicylic Acid, Tretinoin are often prescription active ingredients. Below a low therapeutic dose, these active ingredients may be included in over the counter products. For example, 1% compared to 4% in your ACCP physician's medicines. Only ACCP physicians know how to best treat your skin. The consults are free and are very informative. Pass the drugstore counter and stop off at an ACCP physician's office. The ACCP doctor locator is included for your use. We don't specify which type of doctor has a better fund of knowledge. Cosmetic medicine is learned by those who pursue the knowledge and share their experiences. The ACCP is a national organization of varied medical specialties who share their interest in cosmetic medicine and their experience. Together sharing knowledge will lead to better evidence based decisions. 600 cosmetic product companies exist each "selling" their BRAND. 50 different physicians might be "selling" their BRAND. The ACCP has over 500 cosmetic physicians working together to create the best treatment plan for your skin, irrespective of the BRAND.

Just as we now know to read food labels for carbohydrates, fats and proteins, we must now begin to read the labels of our cosmetic and skincare products. The key ingredients will be the Active Ingredients. The Active Ingredients are the ingredients that actually do what the product claims. The Active Ingredients are required by the FDA to be separately listed. The other ingredients are simply fillers, perfumes and diluents. You will find that only physicians may utilize the fullest strength of the Active Ingredients. ACCP physicians are specialized in compounding medicine and work with ACCP certified pharmacies to prepare unique medicine for your unique skin.

SUN EXPOSURE: Sunlight has some therapeutic benefits, improves certain skin diseases and mitigates arthritis. Unfortunately, chronic sun exposure leads to increased frequency of skin cancer, decreased skin elasticity and sagging, wrinkled skin.

We could spend time discussing the harm caused by the sun's rays, the difference in UV (ultraviolet rays) vs visible light rays, we could educate you that UV (invisible rays) penetrate clouds and are reflected off sand, snow, and that the sun is stronger the closer we are to the equator and closest to noon, etc. The take home message is that avoiding exposure to sun will prevent wrinkles and decrease the chance of skin cancer.

The Skin's Reaction to Sun:

Acute sun exposure (sunbathing) causes INJURY to your skin. The INJURY to your skin is noticed first as a sunburn (mild redness within a few hours), followed by a suntan (which is the skin's reaction to the INJURY) caused by increased production of Melanin, which causes the brown color. Melanin is produced in skin cells deep in the skin, which moves toward the outer layers as the normal cycle of skin cells occurs. New skin cells are formed deep in the skin and are pushed upward to the top layer of skin (where it is visible) When you see the Skin cells, those are actually dead skin cells that were created a few weeks earlier, hence the tan peaks 2 weeks after sun exposure.

Chronic sun exposure without sunblock leads to a change in the texture of the skin, a leathery appearance, making the skin look 10-20 years older. Chronic sun exposure also leads to discoloration- brown, red, yellow spots and also grey scaly growths known as Actinic Keratoses, which may develop into cancer.

CANCER: A subject most non-medical sites avoid to discuss, because this is a reality that is possible IF you trust a make up company to protect and treat your skin and your choice was wrong.

As mentioned earlier, SKIN is an Organ and must be treated by Physicians. Why is it so important to have an ACCP physician who specializes in customized treatments for your SKIN? Cancer cannot be covered by make up or removed with OTC products, nor can your non-physician microdermabrasion technicians diagnose CANCER. Although advances in technology should have decreased the incidence of CANCER, this has not happened. In contrast, the prevalence of CANCER has increased. One theory is that less people are seen by Physicians who specialize in SKIN CANCER detection.

Basal Cell Carcinoma: Occurring in fair skinned complexions, appearing as small, fleshy, shiny nodules that grow slowly. When Diagnosed by a reputable Physician promptly it has a high cure rate.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Occurring in fair skinned complexions, appearing as red, scaly patches. When Diagnosed by a reputable Physician promptly it has a high cure rate.

Melanoma: The most dangerous form of skin cancer. Occurring as a dark brown mole-like lesion with irregular borders that may turn red, blue or white. If not diagnosed early by a reputable Physician, can lead to death.
